2009-04-04: Novice A3 "Bulldogs" Win GHA Championship

CONGRATULATIONS to the Cumberland Bulldogs Novice A3 hockey team on winning the Novice "A" GHA League Championship.  An incredible end to an awesome year of super hockey, hard work and fun.

With continuous strong commitment, full-out effort, dedication, a great hard-work ethic, and a team motto of "17 hearts beat as 1", the Bulldogs were a determined team to do their very best all year long, which all came to fruition and culmination in an extremely exciting playoff run.  After losing 3-2 in a heartbreaker in the first round robin game to the league co-leading number 1 team, the Bulldogs fought back hard to win their next 2 games 5 - 0 and 3 - 0 to finish strong in the playoff standings and advance to the quarter finals.  In the quarter finals, the Bulldogs won a close game 2-1, advancing to the semi's against the league's other co-leading team.  In the semi's, the Bulldogs came out like wildfire and had no quit in their game, winning 6-1, setting themselves up for the championship game against the co-leading number 1 team who had beaten them in the first round robin game.  The championship game was incredible and touted by many viewers as the most exciting game on championship weekend.  The Bulldogs were down 2 - 0 heading into the third when they exploded with 3 unanswered goals, only to have the Leitrim Hawks2 team fight back to draw the game and send it into overtime.  Both teams fought hard in OT with the winning goal coming off a Bulldog stick in double overtime: a "Cinderella story" complete.

In addition to their playoff success, the Bulldogs were also Semi-Finalists in 2 of the 3 tournaments they entered.

What team?!  BULLDOGS!  We're so very proud of you all.  An inspirational and fun year.  Congratulations to our champions:

Note of thanks from Lynne, Paul and Natalie Antoine:

We would like to thank you for attending last night ' s presentation.  It was nice to see a member of the old team win the trophy.  Congratulations Phil!

I would especially like to thank Jean-Paul, Anne and Dan Neault for the very thoughtful gift of the picture frame with pictures of last year ' s team activities.  I was especially touched by the picture of the jersey hanging behind the bench.

I would also like to thank Ian for painting the beautiful trophy - it is painted with the Cumberland logo and all of Brad ' s equipment - down to every detail.  It is quite a work of art!

Brad was blessed with a very good group of friends and teammates.  We think of all of you often and hope our paths will cross again.

The CUMBERLAND Bantam A2 REBELS went undefeated in capturing the A championship in the London House Hockey Tournament.

Head coach Garry Claude had the players firing on all cylinders to advance to the final game against the team from Barrie who finished ahead of them in the round robin.

The first 2 periods were very tight with the Rebels holding onto a 1 goal lead heading into the 3 rd . With only 9 players and a goalie the REBELS dug deep and put the Barrie team away with 3 quick goals to come out with a 5-1 victory. All the players made a great contribution to the team victory.

A special thanks to all the family and friends with their boisterous cheering throughout the tournament. Everyone sure new when the REBELS from Cumberland were on the ice.

2009-01-18: Bantam A6 "Colts" Win TNT Tornadoes Tournament in Alliston

Congratulations to the Cumberland Colts (Bantam A6) team and coach Jeff Toll for winning the first annual House League tournament hosted by the TNT Tornados and Weekend Hockey on the weekend of Jan. 16-18, 2009.

After a long drive in bad weather conditions the Cumberland Colts played their first game on Friday winning easily over a team from St. Catherines. The first game on Saturaday against Bolton proved more difficult with a 0-0 score going late into the second period however the Colts scored first and went on to win 4-1.

They then faced a team from Blackburn and won as well. They had gone undefeated in the round robin and faced the team from Bolton again for the Championship. The Bolton Blackhawks were out for revenge and again it was a close game into the third period. However the coaching staff had told the boys to play a disciplined game and to give it 100% each shift. It payed off with a short handed goal to get the Colts on the scoreboard and to win it all.

Excellent work Cumberland Colts Thanks to the parents as well as the following staff -

Head coach - Jeff Toll, Assistant Coaches - Luc Patenaude and Guy Rancourt and Kurt Kritsch, Trainer - Ed Salloum and Manager Luisa Guyan.

Thank you to the following players for working so hard:  Front Row - Parker, Phil, goalie Corey, Charles Middle row - Eric, Sylvain, Erik, Taylor Back row - Xavier, Daniel, Kyle, Matt, Charles and Steven

The boys played six games in two days and with solid goaltending, great offensive and defensive play, they went undefeated in the round robin setting up a re-match with one of the SSE Wild teams (London, Ontario)  for a spot in the semi-final.

Just as in all the earlier games the boys worked very hard to overcome each team as they progressed through the tournament.  In the tournament final the boys played the number 1 team of the tournament from North London and with continued effort and hard work they won with an impressive score of 10-2.  What a great victory - way to go boys!!!!

2008-12-26: Novice A4 "Titans" Semi-finalists in Montreal Tournament

Our very own Cumberland Titans Novice A4 made it to the semi-finals of the Notre-Dame de Grace tournament in Montreal this past Christmas, but not after a long hard fought battle.

Teams from NDG, Lakeshore, West island and Boisbriand gave our Titans a run for their money, but the Titans managed to hold their own and prove to the Montreal teams that Ottawa can play strong hockey with the best of them. The Titans were the only ONTARIO team in this entire Quebec provincial tournament.

Once in the semi-finals against the Lakeshore Tigers, our boys fought hard to keep that 4-4 score going throughout the entire third period. It was a fantastic game with some super moves by our players and amazing goaltending by both our goalies. In the last seconds of the game, (4.9 seconds to be exact) Lakeshore went on to beat the Titans 5-4. It was like watching the Russia-Canada Junior game!

Our Cumberland Titans put on an incredible performance and represented Cumberland extremely well in this tournament.

Congratulations to Coach Luciano Cavaliere, and assistant Coaches Andrew Winder, Yves Bradette, Mike Kerr and Gino Mazzarello for showing our boys true sportsmanship.
