December 6, 2009

Dear CMHA members,

On behalf of the CMHA Executive Board, I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to all CMHA hockey members.

The 2009-2010 season is well underway and we have just completed the process of some last minute balancing of teams. Team balancing has proven to be quite challenging given the fact that this year we had over 1,374 registered players and 87 teams that we were trying to balance. Nevertheless, this difficult undertaking has now been completed and teams have been formed.

For the first time in many years, we have a full board of executives. This will be very beneficial for the association as there is a lot of work that must be accomplished this year. The executive committee pledges that it will work closely and communicate openly with all of its members in order to represent the children's best interests.

This year we want to communicate more to the membership through newsletters that will be cascaded to the membership through the coaches and managers at the team level. This communiqué is designed to enhance communications and provide our membership with insights and information on activities happening within your association. We welcome any feedback or suggestions you may have and encourage you to e-mail your comments to the CMHA board at cmhainfo@cumberlandminorhockey.ca.

Hockey is the great Canadian pastime! I know many of you share a passion for this great game which is why I would like to remind all members to be mindful again this season that “respect” is an integral part of the game. It is not only critical for all of us to lead by example and be a positive role model, but we must also continue teaching our players the essence of respect. It is important for parents and players alike to respect their opponents, teammates, volunteers, parents, coaches and referees. This value is at the core of this great sport.

In closing, I would like to thank all of our volunteers for the countless hours and sacrifices that they make in order for our association to be successful. Their hard work and dedication are greatly appreciated. I would encourage anyone wishing to volunteer or assist the association to do so, as the continued success of our organization depends largely on volunteers and the participation of our members. We can all play a part in making hockey a positive experience for our players.

Thank you everyone for your continued support as I would like to wish all members a safe and enjoyable 2009-2010 hockey season.

Yours truly,

Dan Guerin

President
