Transfers and Registration Outside District Boundaries
The Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association (ODMHA) has assigned geographic boundaries to each minor hockey association in the Ottawa area. Players must reside within those boundaries to play in that association. Cumberland is District 12. Click HERE to see a map of our boundaries.
This page discusses:
CASE (A) and (B) - Registering Outside Your Geographic Boundary
As stated above, Cumberland is District XII. Note that Orleans, Gloucester Centre, Metcalfe, Blackburn Hamlet, Leitrim and Russell are located in District IX (Gloucester Hockey Association - GHA) and a transfer from CMHA to a District IX association must follow the ODMHA transfer policy below.
The rules for case (A) and (B) are determined by the ODMHA in their 'Rules and Regulation', section 15 "Transfers".
It is shown here for convenience, please refer to their web site for an updated version.
15.0 Transfers NOTE: No player may attend a try-out or any other on-ice activity, with another District or Association, unless a transfer of that player to such District or Association has been approved by ODMHA D&A. Sanctions will be pending to administrators who do not comply.
b) Transfers are only allowed between Districts if there is a waiting list for house league teams only. The transfer must indicate “house league only”. c) Transfers are allowed within a District at the competitive levels if the following criteria are met: ii) The home association does not offer a higher competitive level. d) Before tryouts for the higher level team, the following criteria must be met ii) Transfers must be signed by both Association Presidents or their delegates. e) If the player is cut from the higher-level team, the player must return to his home association. The player is allowed to try out for the next level team within his District. f) No play may attend a try out, or any other on-ice activity, with another District or Association, unless a transfer of that player to such District or Association has been approved as provided for in this Paragraph |
In order for the transfer to occur:
If any one of the above denies the request, the transfer stops right here. Approval or denial is based on ODMHA guidelines, in the case of House League only if there is a waiting list. The parent may appeal to the ODMHA. The cost of an appeal is $250.00 (click HERE). There is an FAQ on the ODMHA website that deals with this. If everyone agrees, the request still must be approved by the ODMHA.
